The Wild Dunes puzzle by photographer Peter Doran is a 1000-piece beach jigsaw puzzle that celebrates the natural beauty of sand dunes. In short, it will provide hours of fun.
About the Artwork
A sand dune is a hill or ridge of sand that the wind piles up over time. Dunes can form wherever there’s plenty of loose sand and enough wind to move it.
In addition, sand dunes are vital to the survival of beaches. They protect homes and habitats further inland from salt spray and blowing sand.
Because it’s a photograph, the puzzle captures the real textures of the sand and coastal plants. If you enjoy Peter Doran’s work, be sure to look at Coastal Sunrise and Beach Party too.
Where to Start
Start with the border, then look for the most distinct shapes and colors in the scene. Next, build the dunes, using the lines of the sand and plants as a guide. After that, work on any water or shoreline. Finally, fill in the sky, sorting those pieces by shade.

A Wild Dunes Puzzle for Nature Lovers
Overall, at 1000 pieces, it’s a satisfying challenge for experienced puzzlers. The natural textures reward patience and a careful eye.
For example, set it up after a beach trip and work on it while you remember the walk over the dunes. Also, it’s a nice way to talk with kids about why we protect dunes.
It also makes a thoughtful gift for beach lovers, nature fans and anyone who enjoys coastal photography.
Framing Your Finished Puzzle
When you finish, the puzzle measures 30″ x 24″. Then glue it, let it dry flat and frame it for a beach house, office or family room.

If you want a challenge, this is the puzzle for you. A few times I thought I would not finish it, but be patient and when it is finished, WOW. It is a beautiful puzzle to frame and enjoy. Give it a try, you will be proud of yourself when finished.

We have a new tradition for our beach vacation — working on a puzzle or two. We leave it on the table and anyone can work on the puzzle as much or as little as they want. We had people working on the puzzles early in the morning until late at night. This was a fun, but difficult, puzzle to do with the family. Nice quality.

A fun challenge! Fences and shadows of fences, beach grasses and the ocean. It took me a while but I loved it.
