The Winter’s Retreat puzzle by artist William Mangum features a pair of cardinals settling into their winter retreat. In short, this 550-piece jigsaw puzzle is fun for the entire family.
About the Artwork
The bright red cardinals stand out against the soft winter colors. Meanwhile, the scene feels calm and cozy.
In addition, William Mangum’s warm brushwork makes even a snowy day feel inviting. As a result, it’s a relaxing puzzle to build.
Because cardinals stay in their territory all year, they’re one of the most familiar winter birds at backyard feeders.

Where to Start
Start with the border, then build the cardinals, using their red feathers as a guide, since it stands out right away. Next, work on the branches. After that, piece together the snow. Finally, fill in the background, sorting those pieces by shade.
