The Birds of the Gulf of Mexico puzzle by artist Ernest C. Simmons features 73 bird species, both common and exotic. In short, this 550-piece jigsaw puzzle is a beautiful guide for bird watchers.

About the Artwork

The birds are found in the coastal and wetland areas of the Gulf region. The region stretches from Texas through Louisiana and Alabama to Florida.

In addition, each bird is carefully illustrated with its true colors and markings. As a result, it’s a great way to learn the birds you see on the coast.

With 73 species to build, every bird becomes a small puzzle of its own.

Where to Start

Start with the border, then build the largest birds, using their shapes as a guide, since it stands out right away. Next, work on the birds one row at a time. After that, piece together the smaller species and any labels. Finally, fill in the background, sorting those pieces by shade.

  1. Linda –

Surprisingly challenging for only 550 pieces; those white edges were more difficult than you’d think! I thoroughly enjoyed this puzzle.
