The Chincoteague’s Finest puzzle by local artist Kevin McBride celebrates the annual wild pony swim. In short, this 550-piece jigsaw puzzle is a beautiful tribute to a beloved tradition.

About the Artwork

Each year, wild ponies swim between Assateague Island and Chincoteague Island, Virginia. Crowds gather to watch this historic event.

In addition, Kevin McBride created this collage from his many paintings of the pony swim. It was made for the 90th anniversary of the swim in 2015.

As a result, the puzzle shows the ponies from many angles and moments. Every pony has its own markings, so each one is fun to build.

Where to Start

Start with the border, then build the ponies, using their markings as a guide, since it stands out right away. Next, work on the water and splashes. After that, piece together the shoreline and marsh. Finally, fill in the sky, sorting those pieces by shade.
